Canadian Startups Compete at ADM Toronto

Advanced manufacturing in Canada is growing faster than you can say "Internet of Things."

Ontario is home to the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster — part of the Innovation Supercluster Initiative and its $950 million investment — where businesses are cultivating important innovation in advanced robotics, 3D printing, IoT, machine learning, cybersecurity, and more. As a result, the industry is expected to generate 13,500 jobs and increase the nation's GDP by more than $13.5 million over the next 10 years.

To showcase Canada's next-gen products and services, Advanced Design & Manufacturing (ADM) Expo Toronto is proud to present the first annual Startup Stadium. We've selected nine Canadian startups to showcase their products and participate in a pitch competition at the ADM Expo.

Stop by the stadium to watch the pitches from these up-and-coming innovators and see who's selected to win a media and marketing package from Informa.

Meet the Competitors

Conformal Cooling Solutions
Conformal Cooling Solutions was conceived after the founder, Pat Zaffino, recognized several shortcomings in the tool and die industry. His years of experience welding on moulds and creating engineering changes motivated him to create a safer and superior method to deposit large amounts of weld accurately and reproducibly. The concept of 3D robotic additive manufacturing was then developed and thoroughly tested in his tool shop. A creative offshoot from this technology was to use this robotic technology to create conformal cooling channels in moulds, greatly reducing the part cycle time. Once the basic principles of these technologies were forged, Pat and his team of developers partnered with automotive OEMs, the University of Waterloo, Precarn Incorporated, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), and the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program to develop cutting-edge research to create 3D objects on molds and dies, and the conformal cooling applications based on this.

CP Group Canada Mobile
CP Group Canada Mobile is a new company with the vision of enhancing business for the future. Our software can be used in any organization that:

  • Has high turnover
  • Continuously new product launches
  • Is housed in a large facility where employees are regularly assigned to new jobs

SensOR Medical is developing a force-sensing film for minimally invasive surgical tools used in general surgery, urology, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.

JITbase was founded in 2016 in Montreal, Canada to help manufacturing companies move to Industry 4.0. Specializing in CNC machines in manufacturing factories, JITbase finds the optimal path for the operator and guides them to the machine that will soon need attention. As a result, the operator manages up to six machines instead of two, with more uptime.

At LabsCubed we automate polymer testing for R&D and quality labs. Through the integration of automated testing systems and intelligent software we are able to provide our customers more consistent and faster testing.

MAJiK Systems
MAJiK's mission is to provide manufacturers with real-time information to monitor, analyze, and optimize their operations by connecting directly to capital equipment in plants. This drives our employees to use their unique skill sets gained through years of experience in manufacturing and industrial engineering to help you improve your factory operations using data-driven manufacturing methods.

Omnirobotic is developing autonomous industrial robots. Like autonomous cars, autonomous robots can see their environment, plan, and then execute a given task by themselves. Unlike current industrial robots, no one has to teach autonomous robots the required sequence of actions or how to move. Omnirobotic is developing artificial intelligence so that robots can understand processes, not only repeat an instructed motion. This AI makes them able to perform tasks on any products in real time. As these robots don't need to be programmed, they can be used on a small production lot, even a lot of one. Our first product, the OmniPainter™, is adapted to continuous flow finishing lines operation, supporting both powder and liquid coating application. They know how to paint anything!

Sienci Labs
Sienci Labs emerged in early 2016 from research and testing to create low-cost mechanical systems for rapid prototyping tools like CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters. Now our vision is to make automated manufacturing and rapid prototyping technology accessible for both technical and non-technical makers. The Sienci Mill One (our first product) is a high performance, 3-axis desktop milling machine that turns your ideas into real objects in an easy to use, affordable package that focuses on simple design and user experience.

Visionary Semiconductor
Visionary Semiconductor Inc. focuses on realizing color imaging and depth mapping with one compact device, solving the heavy computing and form factor problems of current 3D imaging technologies. Our products extend from the source of 3D imaging technology and advanced image sensors, to intelligent 3D imaging device and modules with IoT capabilities.
